  Coolseats sales to resume in August 2026

• Why sales are paused:

  I’m relocating the fabrication factory from Melbourne to Sydney so the factory is closer to where I live in Chippendale, Sydney.

  This way I may more effectively continue to simplify the design, reduce the cost and make it easier for anyone to assemble their Coolseats.  The range of options is being increased.

• Coolseats winning design awards in Victoria:

  In the meantime here is an email to my and my fellow project colleague from the project officer at Melbourne City Council, Nicky Stecca, with her news about some Victorian design awards being won by the Worms at Work project involving Coolseats:

  "Worms at Work has been named a finalist in the 2026 MAV Innovation Awards, in the Stronger Together Award for Council Collaboration category.

  The project also received a Special Commendation in the Horizon Award for Future Climate Change Leadership and Action category.

  Thank you both for making this project happen and for being such active and passionate collaborators throughout. It’s great to see the work and collaboration behind the pilot recognised in this way.

  The winners will be announced on 17 September, I’ll keep you posted 😊

  Also worth sharing: Worms at Work will become part of a public series of innovation case studies, available for councils and other interested organisations to learn from. Hopefully, this will help make this type of project more accessible to other municipalities and demonstrate the value of testing innovative ideas through collaboration with community and external partners.

  All parts and the design have a lifetime expectancy equal to that of typical high quality local council street furniture made of steel – over 20 years.

  The weight and dimensions will be similar to the current dimensions which are:

  o   Weight: less than 80kg – easy for two people to carry, to fit into a lift, or onto a balcony, in a laneway, on or beside a footpath

  o   Weight: less than 80kg – easy for two people to carry, to fit into a lift, or onto a balcony, in a laneway, on or beside a footpath

  Features include:

  ·      Steel protects the compost from rats and mice

  ·      Safe for children and anyone with simple mechanical design to prevent the seat slamming

  ·      Long lasting street furniture – 20 years +: rust proof steel frame

  ·      Stable seat made of wood recycled plastic

  ·      Self-watering garden with water stored below the garden beds – saves 80% of water and time to water

  ·      Price range being reviewed: aiming for less than $1,500 and preferably around $1100
